Chickering Piano |

The Chickering Piano was created by Jonas Chickering, and started to mass produce 1923. The first Chickering Piano was of high quality, and was successfully marketed by one of his partners. The Chickering piano utilized a cast iron frame. Jonas Chickering invented a new way of construction the strings of the piano. In 1845 he started over stringing the strings in his Chickering pianos, instead of placing them side by side. Not only did this save space of the Chickering piano, but this brought the powerful bass strings directly over the most resonant part of the sound-board, a principle which obtains to this day in the construction of all pianos, both grands and upright. So the method of construction from the Chickering pianos has obviously effected the current pianos today. For these reasons, the Chickering piano possesses extremely powerful and rich sounds, especially the bass. The Chickering piano is a very high quality piano. Today Chickering Pianos are perfect for the house. You generally don't see Chickering pianos played in a concert, normally Steinway pianos are used for that. Don't let this fool you though. This is partly due to the naming brand, and the fact that Steinway is a well known brand name. Chickering pianos are still awesome sounding pianos, and very high quality. Also, the Chickering piano certainly has a distinct tone. |
