Necessary Items for a Home Recording Studio

Here are some of the necessary products you need in order to start your own home recording studio.

The Software Samplers

Gigastudio is the best software sampler on the market, not to mention it is the easiest to learn how to use.  Its the best solution to turn midi into realistic sounding CD quality music.  The Giga instruments made for Gigastudio are also the best, such as sonic implants, Vienna Symphonic Orchestra, Dan Dean Woodwinds and Brass, and much more.  It is also convenient to use Gigastudio, because most instrument samples are in the Gig format, so you would not need to worry about converting samples.
Halion is the alternative for users who are proficient with the Mac, or Cubase SX by Steinberg.  Halion is not a standalone, and is an add-on specifically for Cubase users.  So if you do not want to go for a standalone product, then Halion is the right choice for you.  There are instruments made specifically for Halion, but if not, you can easily convert the format.

The Format Converters

Chicken Systems Translator is a great tool to convert all of the formats to the format that you prefer.  For example, if you have a soundfont, halion, sample cell or akai format, and want to convert to giga format, Chicken Systems Translator can do this for you.

The Midi Sequencers

Sibelius 3 is one of the leading midi sequencers available on the market.  If you want to compose music, I would highly recommend this product.  The music output looks professional.  Music composition and formatting is the most important thing for a composer, then comes the software samplers which do the conversions.
Finale 2004 is the major competitor of Sibelius 3.  Finale 2004 is used by many music publishers and is a very powerful notation editor.  Again, the notation editor is very important for a composer.  You need to compose the music first, before you do the conversion.
Cubase is another popular midi sequencer but it is more like an "all in one."  For example, it is a sequencer, wav editor, and software sampler combined in one package.  You need to purchase Halion 3.0 if you want to use Cubase SX3 as a software sampler.

The Wav Editors

This wonderful piece of software used to be called Cool Edit Pro.  Cool Edit Pro is now named Adobe Audition.  Adobe Audition is the best wav editor software on the market, and is essential for CD Mastering.  It has capabilities of producing great reverb, create bass, treble, transpose a key, remove vocals, convert to various bitrates in mp3 format, mix 2 or more wav/mp3 files together, and much more.
