One thing that is depressing about artists of these times is that they
don't compose their own music. They have somehow lost the true
meaning to what music composition really is. Some artists even go
as far as not even singing their own music pieces. They dub their
voices and use back soundtracks. Joseph Arthur is the complete
opposite. He is not only a singer but also a songwriter. He
was born in Akron, OH and loved to compose and create music. Joseph
Arthur's work was mainly inspired by nature and the Earth and all types
of abstract art. He worked with Peter Gabriel around 1994-1995 and
refined his voice until he was eventually offered a contract by Real
World Recording Company. There Joseph Arthur began working on his
first label and record. In 1997, Joseph Arthur released Big City
Streets. Unfortunately, this album was not as big as Joseph Arthur
had anticipated. He had hoped that his album would do well, but it
didn't. So what do you think someone in Joseph Arthur's shoes would
have done? Well, they might have quit, but not Joseph.
Joseph went on to expand his music abilities and spread his musical
style all over the world. He eventually started touring with Ben
Harper and Gomez. In 1999, Joseph Arthur released EP Vacancy.
And how was Joseph Arthur rewarded? He was offered a Grammy
nomination for Best Recording Package. Way to go Joseph!
