| Weird Al Yankovic is most known for writing his parodies, and his
full name is Alfred Matthew Yankovic. He began playing the
accordion when he was seven years old. Weird Al Yankovic
eventually became a teacher for the accordion. He then started to
create tapes of his songs and sent them to Dr. Demento, who was in
charge of novelty music. When Weird Al Yankovic graduated from
school, he had a couple of released singles, and he eventually signed a
deal with Scotti Bros. His music is comical, and very different,
which is how Weird Al Yankovic got his name. Weird Al Yankovic
always gets permission from the artists if he wants to do a parody.
Most artists are actually flattered to have Weird Al Yankovic give a
parody on their work, thats how well known he is. Some other
artists do consider him to be offensive, but this is most likely because
they do not have a sense of humor. Weird Al Yankovic did a parody
on Nirvana, and Nirvana was actually flattered. He even managed to
mock Michael Jackson's "Beat It", and named it "Eat It." "Eat It"
by Weird Al Yankovic became an MTV hit, and it even won a grammy.
An example of an artist being offended by Weird Al Yankovic is Coolio.
The story is not straight, but according to Coolio, he never gave the
word to let Weird Al Yankovic make a parody of Coolio's "Gangsta's
Paradise" in which he called "Amish Paradise." Nevertheless, Amish
Paradise by Weird Al Yankovic was also a success, and helped build his
career even stronger. After the success of Amish Paradise, Weird
Al Yankovic created his most popular song "Bad Hair Day." |
