Software Sampler

A software sampler is a type of software that will route musical wav files, called instrument patches or a sound library, through a virtual midi port created by the software sampler and used by a sequencer, such as Sibelius or Finale.  The main purpose of a software sampler is to enhance a midi file.  Software samplers are used in the movies, tv commercials, the radio.  I bet you did not know midi is used in the radio or the movie music that you hear.
Midi Recording Process
1.  Midi Sequencer
2.  Software Sampler
3.  Gigastudio
4.  Sound Libraries
5.  CD Mastering

In addition to enhancing the midi file, a software sampler also converts the midi file into a WAV file, thus creating the midi recording.  This is essential to a composer because he can then burn his music on a CD and distribute it.  A software sampler uses a lot of RAM, so a powerful computer is necessary.  Also a good soundcard may be necessary in order for a software sampler to operate to its full potential.  The cost of a software sampler can be between $300-600.  Sound libraries also need to be purchased because a software sampler is useless without a sound library.  The software sampler loads it into memory in order for the sequencer to play back the genuine sounds.
